Kuria West: Demonstrations over 'move of two wards'

Kuria West constituents have protested against IEBC's delimitation, that moves two wards to Kuria East constituency.

Gokeharaka and Getambega wards are said to have been 'moved' by the IEBC's latest boundaries delimitation process.

Residents say 'taking away the two wards amounts to splitting the Bukira clan' insisting ' the two are comfortable being in Kuria West. Kuria East had earlier been marked to have current 9 wards that comprise of the Bwirege and Nyabasi clans, whilst Kuria West constitutes the Bukira and Bugumbe clans.

Demonstrators marched along Kehancha streets Monday 13th February, causing traffic snarl up. They denounced the IEBC move, accusing Vice-Chair Lilian Mahiri-Zaja of failing to protect their interests. Ms. Mahiri-Zaja comes from the Bukira community.
